Training for Separation Anxiety:

Case Studies

Read below to see how my training has had a positive impact on the lives of families who have a dog with separation anxiety.

It's never too late to get your life back & relieve your dog of their anxiety.

Case Study 1: Dillon

When Dillon's owner Beth got in contact with me, she was concerned that with Dillon being 4 years old, he would be 'too old' to train for separation anxiety.

The Problem:

Dillon was constantly barking every time Beth and her family left the house. He was vocalising within 2 minutes of the family leaving in our initial assessment, and pacing around the house.

The Plan:

A step by step plan was created specifically for Dillon. Each week we would try and increase the time he was left alone in the house, with a carefully tailored approach to ensure that we were not pushing him too hard or too quickly.

The Outcome: from 2 minutes to over 1 hour!

Katie Says: When Dillon had his initial assessment he would begin to vocalise within 2 minutes of his owners leaving the house. He would pace around the house his owners , he was barking within a matter of seconds of his owner leaving the house.

It's been a pleasure to watch him transition from a very anxious dog into a much calmer, confident dog who is now able to stay on his own for over 18 minutes! Together with the owners, I continue to work with Duke and build on his progress with tasks that will move him closer to being free of separation anxiety.

Client Feedback

We are 1.5 months in to Dillon’s separation anxiety training with Katie and have seen huge differences already. He has gone from incessant barking (reported by neighbours) when left alone to being able to do 30-50 minutes settled and content by himself. It is really encouraging to see that the hard work pays off with the training.

We were curious about how well he’d do with it given he is 4 years old and no longer such a trainable puppy. Similarly, given he is a cockapoo we also wondered how much you could train the ‘human neediness’ out of him. Whilst he definitely still prefers to be with his pack, we are noticing him spending more time alone in the house when we are at home too, rather than following us from room to room so much. He genuinely seems to be a more relaxed, less anxious dog.

Case Study 2: Duke

Feeling the frustration of Duke's separation anxiety, his owner Victoria contacted me looking for a solution to get him to be at peace with being left alone in the house for a while.

The Problem:

In our initial assessment, Duke was barking within seconds of the owner leaving the house. He was very clearly upset with being left alone. His owner Victoria was very keen for him to settle so that both Duke and the family could feel comfortable with leaving him alone for a while.

The Plan:

It was clear that our plan for Duke had to be have a steady approach. It's important to not push the dog too far - especially in the early stages - so we built on Duke's progress gradually day by day and week by week.

The Outcome: from 5 Seconds to over 18 Minutes!

Katie Says: When Duke had his initial assessment, he was barking within a matter of seconds of his owner leaving the house. It's been a pleasure to watch him transition from a very anxious dog into a much calmer, confident dog who is now able to stay on his own for over 18 minutes! Client Feedback

We have a 3 year old dachshund who does not like to be left at home alone. He barks and whines constantly. I was given Katie's details and we've been training with her for a couple of months now. Katie's method is exactly what I had been looking for. A fully structured program that is very clear and easy to stick to with results which are progressing week on week. So happy we found Katie.
